Fast Pagoda into Ankle Hang and Piked Falling Angel and Fast Pagoda into Straddle Back Star Shape Needle Pose (mini rig)

The needle split can be intense for my lower back, is it ok if I stag my top leg if it’s too much? Essentially I can’t lift my chest high enough when I do it (generally, it varies on the wrap used to get into it), due to a pre existing lower back injury.

Thanks for this super cool combo!
I’m still far from a middle split, and after the backward roll I tend to end up more in a pike position (facing downwards) with my legs opening in a V shape. Is the challenge still somehow doable for me? And what can I do to bring myself back upright after the backward roll, even if I don’t have a middle split?-

After the pagoda I’m used to grabbing the poles to flip around instead of the tails. When I try with the tails I find I don’t have enough tension to push myself back around. Any other tips or modifications?

Good question, added to the list!

Hello! Thanks for another beautiful sequence! I am trying the mini rig sequence. I have done the pagoda (we called it scorpion…so many names!) but mine was jerky so may not work where I train. Do you have tips for me to smooth out the moment when the legs swing over to the arch shape? Thanks!

Good question, it is kinda a drop/slide. We will see what Rachel suggests!

Hi again! I gave it a tentative go, and I’d love tips on this section before the pagoda (is that the straddle?)
a) could you describe the best grip of tails by feet so that tails can slide nicely?
b) my shapes before and during the part when feet swing over putatif poles are not nice. I know that this can be done with drama and beauty but I haven’t tried it enough to know how to improve it. It’s not tooo jerky on the rigging, but I will hold off drilling it until I know more.
At least the background is perfect! -

PS I also second Cathy’s question about the backwards roll.

I have a funny question about the ankle drop. Is there possibility to fall out of it of you flex your feet too late or if you fall sideways (i dont know if its possible, just fantasising)?:) or with 3 wraps it should be safe to just let go and drop and assume that you wont fall straght head down to the mat, right?
I walked it down few times, just trying to gather courage to try and drop😅-

Good question, knowing the potential fails of a drop is good practice, helps us feel confident when we know what to do!

I managed to get ahead and try the crossback entry in the non-mini-rig sequence. It’s impossible to get my shoulders in. Any suggestions?
Also regarding the entry into the drop (angel drop?), I find it very difficult to straighten my leg without bending over the fabric, and then climbing onto the poles is very difficult. Any suggestions here too? I’m late, but I’ll give it a try.
Thanks again-

Hey Roberta!
When getting into the cross back, make sure the feet stay together to keep the X from moving up towards the shoulders. The legs also want to stay more parallel to the floor, piked, to keep the poles more loose to fit on the X back.
This particular entry to angel is more tight as the wraps on the legs are built while climbing up the poles rather than from wrapping the tails over the legs. When hooking the knee, think about getting the thigh around the pole rather than just hooking the knee. Using the thigh the leverage the climb up tends to be stronger than using the knee joint, where we often use the calf if we hook just thinking of the knee. You can also drive the back leg down to lever up the shoulders. The higher you can get the hands on the poles over the knee hook, the more fabric you have to use for the wrap.
You’ve got this!

Ee I’m late to the party 🙂 i checked the q&a (feel better that I’m not the only one struggling with the back roll after pagoda) I feel like I’m committing to going backward but not in the right direction , or like my legs are preventing me from going over. I’m practicing a quick roll holding the poles under the knees, and that works well but when holding the tails I stall completely in an upside-down Pike. (Feels similar to where others were stuck.and wondering If anyone has any further advice ?)
Thanks!

Not late! When Rachel does the tail grab, she reaches close to the feet. As she kicks the legs back toward the wall behind her, she lets the tails slide through the hands just until the knees extend and then holds tight, allowing the feet to pull the hips over. Once the hips rotate back, extend the tailbone towards the floor, press the feet into the tails, pull the chest upright. See if you can use the tension between the tails, hands, and legs to give you leverage.
Happy training! -

About the reverse roll after pagoda, I wanted to show my struggle and success video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTmIMn3E7FY/?igsh=dDkwNmhpZmpsZ3pn
And few points that I learnt for myself: 1) hands placement is very important! When I was catching the tails under my knees with thumbs up it was completely impossible to roll! You can see my first attempt in my video:) 2) momentum makes it easier! Do not hang there for too long just roll back faster! And 3) when I stopped targeting to come up in a split and started to send my butt a bit to the back and pike, then only I became consistent at the roll😅
Hope it helps🙏🏻🤗

Oooh! Thank you for sharing your progress, Ksenia! Glad to know the thumb up option doesn’t work as well. And it’s great to see how you figured out how to get the hips over far enough for the straddle balance. By waiting for the hips, the chest stayed close to the legs long enough to finish the rotation. If we try to open the chest too soon, we lose momentum, and get that glorious head down straddle 😉

Thanks so much for sharing ! After watching this I have had more success, and now have hope for finding consistency soon.

I find it really impossible to get into cross back – after I put my head into cross I cannot pull up and slot my shoulders in so the main challenge ends there for me every time I try🤦🏻♀️ I finished the mini-rig one but might not be able to nail the main challenge😅

Kseniya, you are welcome to do the entry into cross back from the mini rig sequence for the main challenge. You would climb up from the ankle drop and backward roll then open out into a wide straddle and then go into the mini cross back, climb above for the angel etc! Make it work for you 🙂

Hello Silksstars Team!
Because of an issue with my left knee, I adjusted the sequence so that I could still perform it. I basically skipped the ankle drop and loaded knee exit. I hope that s fine☺️.-

This is a sequence I definitely want to revisit. I’m just getting started on Silk Stars, and figured I’d build momentum by trying out this month’s sequence and sharing it. A few elements are missing, so I’ll keep working on it. It was loads of fun!-
