During the wheeldown, how do you keep from losing the slack in the silk. I’m holding both silks out straight, dive through, then as I come around my arm ends up closer to the pole and I lose all my slack. I end up losing a lot of height because I’m dropping down. Any tips would be helpful.

I have the same problem! Trying to keep my hands nicely extended but they shorten by the time I finish my wheeldown

Hi! Can you tell me how to keep tension in the foot hitch? After I take my other foot out, the wrap is not very snug and my foot slides down. To move on to the rest of the sequence, I’ve been using a regular old single foot lock.

I also tried the mini rig. For the backwards roll at the end I can’t get all the way around to end up with my arm behind my back. Maybe I’m trying to go to slow through the roll so I get stuck at the bottom. Is there another way to unlock the wrap or a better way to break down that roll?

I have a problem with coming to the last banana shape, when I bring my both legs into a tuck, I slide down a lot and unable to get into banana shape. I only tried it once though, because by the time I reached there it was the end of my training session. Maybe there are some tips on how high to hold the tail and how to engage to make it easier to bring body into that shape?

Hello! I have a question, during the wheeldown, where should be the silk, I found hard to move as I cannot place it close to the hips to rotate, I get it around the bell, so the rotation feels (and looks) very weird. Not sure if I am doing a wrong wrap or should I try to improve the movement with the silk in that place. Thank you!

Ok, 1st, LOVING this challenge & Rain! So thank you very much! Now, my question, I’m really struggling with the straddle switch beat. I don’t have enough momentum to get back up. I know there are exercises to work on this but I’m not finding them now that I need them. Can anyone direct me in the right direction for this? Thanks!

Great question. One thing you can try to do to find the power of using the swing and kick of the legs to use momentum is to work in a knot to build comfort with the pathway. Make sure the knot is high enough so you are comfortable really swinging and kicking the legs without being concerned about hitting the floor. Once you are in the knot, hold with bent arms, find a straddle with the hips open and practice swinging the legs side to side, keeping the hips open and the legs the same distance apart the whole time. Knees will face the wall in front of you and pinky toes will reach towards the ceiling at the top of the beat. This is the middle of the straddle switch beat, often called a bell beat.
Once those feel comfortable, set the legs up along the pole, toes to the sky. One leg will drop down, hips turn 90 degrees, hit the bell beat and the second legs will pass through the bell position but then turn the hips another 90 to hit the inverted straddle. One leg has to follow the other or the momentum with drop down in the middle!
Try watching the video slowed down. This is hard to explain without visuals so we will keep looking in the archives to see if there are any workouts or previous challenges that would help.
Let us know how it goes, happy training!

Ok, Brandon’s August 2024 challenges has a back balance beat in it. Luckily, its the bell beat but much harder! So the bell beat/straddle switch beat for this month won’t be nearly as hard! There are probably some good tips on how to think about the beat in the break down. I really like this sequence!!! Thanks!
I’m having trouble with the wheeldown; I’m attaching a video of my attempts. I’ve noticed that I bend my legs, and when I rotate my body downwards, I sort of collapse in on myself. I imagine I need to keep my core engaged, my legs straight, and perhaps my torso more horizontal. Can you give me some magic tips? Thanks!!!

No magic for wheeldowns just yet, more strength first! Use the set up for the wheeldown to check in with the position of the legs and that is the shape to maintain belly down as well. Try to find this position on a knot to feel just how much the legs and hips and core need to be ready before the top toe releases from the pole. Ground workouts to try to find the side glute muscles as well as generally get that core ready: BACK up, Core Activator, Hip Warmer, Straddle Flex.
One cue that might help in the belly down part of the wheel down is the pinky toes actively reaching towards each other, BEHIND you!
Happy training! Let us know how it goes!
