How does Clara think about spinning? e.g. do you stay focused on one point to avoid getting dizzy? Or turn your head each time with the spin to stay in the same line of motion? What is the best and safest way to manage a spin at higher speeds?

Clara is stunning!! Amazing sequence and I love those illusion rolls in the mini-rig, they look so difficult though. I want to try and learn both!

OMG I am a Clara fan. I have been following her even from before she got into ENC. Those illusion rolls from the mini-rig sequence look so bad-ass and fun ….. and DIFFICULT. I tried it today with the knot. Driving the left leg for momentum is fine. But to actually twist is a challenge 🙁 Tips and safety precautions as we eventually try it without the knot would be appreciated. What an exciting July this will be.

Noted for Q&A

Yes I’d love a breakdown of how to get out of it…what happens if the hand doesn’t grab well? Did you learn a single roll and then build it up from there? Soooo coool.

I tried without the knot and when I reach the lowest point there’s no bounce at all to keep the rolls going.
The second problem appears when I extend my leg to turn my hip, I can’t regrab the poles with my knee. -

@robin – Great question – if the hand misses, you will most likely drop to feet, hands, and knees unless your chest is facing the ceiling. Notice how Clara always opens her arm outside of the thigh with the sit up. And she uses a pike to slow down the last rotation to catch the pole. You could practice the dismount in the knot by working on the rocks and then piking and controlling the legs opening past the pole while you set up the hand to catch. The tempo of the last roll to the dismount will be different than if you were catching the knee and roll again.
@dorag : I think I understand the first issue as potentially being related to hinging too far in the knee hook hip so the knee and the hand get closer and closer together on the pole. Once the two are close together, you won’t have the same play in the fabric for the bounce. At 7:25 in the replay for the Q&A, there is an activation of the knee hook leg that works in tandem with the drive of the free leg and the lift of the chest to make this roll successful. Knee hooks can be powered from pressing the hip forward to hook the leg up and over the pole rather than the hip sit back and hooking the knee. It’s often cued from the chest opening and getting your knee as far above your hands as possible but includes an activation of the hooking hip forward.
As for catching the pole with the knee hook, there is most likely a bit of internal rotation happening in the hip to make sure the knee crosses from outside the pole across it for the knee to catch. Think about the inner thighs maintaining a serious connection to the pole the whole time so you feel the pole slide from hip/thigh down to the knee as much as possible.Happy training! Keep us posted!

It will be another amazing month with this challenge!
and I have the first silly question of the month… actually i’m practicing in a studio that do not have a swivel for the silks… there’s some magic trick or tip for managing a little spin in these setting?
Thank you!-

Great question, we will see if Clara has any suggestions and will brain storm here as well.
For safety considerations, if the silk is rigged directly to a beam, rig point to carabiner to rescue 8, spin can work. If the point is rigged with rope, spinning without a swivel puts strain on the rope and is not good long term.
Hope that helps enough for now! -

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! To give you a clearer picture of my setup: the silk is rigged to a soft shackle (webbing sling) wrapped around a wooden beam, closed with a carabiner, with a rescue 8 attached to the carabiner as the spin point for the silk. There’s also a safety strap/webbing as backup.
Based on what you described, it sounds like this should fall into the “safe” category since it’s a rigid point (beam + webbing + carabiner + rescue 8) rather than a rope. Does this setup sound okay for spinning without a swivel? Also, is there anything specific I should be checking regularly (wear on the webbing at the beam contact point, etc.) to make sure it stays safe for spins over time?
Looking forward to hearing what Clara thinks too!

Can’t be specific about your particular setup, having someone with rigging knowledge check your set up is the best option.
As a rule of thumb, anything that is soft and is twisted can wear over time.

Hi, is there another trick or skill I can do instead of the 1 arm shoulder wrap (main challenge) or 1 arm hang (mini rig) I have bad shoulders and this is a level of danger that I’m not willing to risk for my own personal safety.

I kind of manage getting into the one arm pose and can hang there and pose but I just cannot recover from it – even though meathook. But I guess its the general problem with my inversions🤦🏻♀️ will try harder to pull into short arm there🤦🏻♀️

I have one more request for Clara – can she show the entry into split silk hipkey really slowly and detailed? I thought I know this one and did it before but I tried so many times today and there is something wrong in how I get into the final pose before the drop – when she gets into kind of “secretary seat” before she extends into straight body position, the silk behind goes right in tye middle of the butt easily, but when I do it the silk remain on my right and I have to really push for it to come to the middle of my back and butt🤦🏻♀️
The other confusing thing for me was that Clara changes hands after getting into split silk hipkey and I didnt have to switch hands which made me think that maybe my entry is incorrect.-

I was waiting for this answer but it didnt make it to the QnA. I guess its because Clara didnt have the silks and couldnt really demonstrate anything. So I screen recorded and slowed down the entry into split silk hip key, wasnt able to try anything since I was traveling but now I am back and will try tomorrow.

If you have a video of you doing it, we could try to see what the issue is. Two things to consider: make sure the tails aren’t twisted getting into the Secretary, sometimes a twist in the wrap with keep the silk from settling up the middle. And your leg can either pass ‘behind’ or ‘in front’ of the pole in your hand. It may make the tails twist but it’s functionally the same.
Keep us posted!

That leg drop is somehow really intimidating to me. I’m scared to drop it full out (I’m worried my leg won’t catch.) I’ve walked it down a few times but I’m still nervous. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am actually mostly falling out of it, but its quite safe as long as I keep both hands grip, I mostly end up in pike and then hook my leg😅

Great work! Going to pike is one of the ‘bigger’ versions of this particular drop 😊

I would love a demo of how it looks if the leg misses that catch. THANKS!

It’s good to know that even if the leg misses, it’s fine! I’ll give it a try! Thank you!!

I’m also looking for an alternative to the one arm wrap. I can get to that pose but I don’t really have enough height to be off the ground enough that I feel balanced. That and my shoulder is iffy sometimes. I want to do the full sequence but I think I need to modify something towards the end to make it work.
