I have two questions, and they both involve sliding! So when I turn out for the first split, my back leg drops lower than my front, so I lose the wrap as I go to rotate to the standing split. Apart from working out the body versus silks to get my positioning right (my hips are generally higher than my feet when I pop out of the cocoon at the moment) and practicing more, is there a way to keep that back leg up so the wrap doesn’t undo? The other slide is where I go from the s-wrap to the pike, before wrapping my leg. I find I slide slightly even though I’m trying to compress in that pike. Any tips for how to hold the silk?

            Thanks!

Update – I’ve worked out when I invert if I make sure my hips are high, I don’t slide in the split. I don’t have as much slack though but wonder if it’s because of my shorter legs – so the slack is tight rather than loose (I’ve posted a video so you can see what I mean). So first slide issue fixed!

Hello! What a nice sequence! I started practicing the drop. I have this video of 2 awkward failed attempts to do the star catch drop https://www.silksstars.com/community/soledad/media/5742 . I would appreciate any advice about my body position etc that allow me to hook the knee.
I understood it is not needed to hook the knee during the drop and I could do it later but anyway I cant find a nice posture and I dont feel confident 🙁 Thank you!

I ran into similar issues when trying the drop on rope. I wondered if it was just that I was on rope but I guess not (ended up with some fun thigh bruises! lol). I think I’m also having trouble getting/keeping the wrap high enough on my thigh so it doesn’t slide down during the drop and prevent the knee hook.

I am struggling with the same thing as Danica. My back leg in that first split is sliding down and then I lose the wrap, but such a unique, FUN sequence! I’m loving trying to figure it out! Thanks!

I am also feeling awkward with the first inversion. Mine is not flowing like Chanel’s. Instead of one seamless flow to hook the right knee, I’m having to toe tap the left to then get in the right knee hook. Any tips for what I’m doing incorrectly and how I can improve this part? Thanks!

For the end of the first part when you step into the bottom of the loop for a split, the distance is too far for my split (I don’t have a flat split). Any alternatives you can suggest? I’ve been playing with other poses that don’t require me to get to the bottom of the loop but I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks again for a challenging challenge! I’ve had the same problems as Danika. (I’m doing mini rig challenge.) Wind doesn’t help but when wrapping my second leg I feel like an aerial prawn spasming to get that last wrap.
Also sometimes after the tricky hip lock sequence the wraps don’t drop off without more aerial prawn work.
It’s a nifty sequence! I hope to be less prawn-like once I have practiced.
                                  Thanks!

I think I hurt my knee from the previous challenge so any kinda twisting is a no go. Is there another alternative to the twist to split?

Hi! I echo the part about no slack in the first split – I too have short legs. I also echo the part about not having a 180 degree split so dropping into the slack is a little scary (and maybe the lack of too much slack there is a good thing). So I look forward to the answers to those questions!

I have another question that is about the transition from the first split (after shaking the wrap off the front loop) into the second split. Chanel showed two options – a flamenco hold and rotating the body up and over, OR just moving the loose silk loop. I feel like each of the two different methods leaves the wrapped leg in a different position? The flamenco method leaves the leg less wrapped (doesn’t spinning the body that direction undo a wrap?) and maybe in a more comfortable position vs. NOT doing the flamenco. But when I watch the video, it doesn’t look like there’s any difference. What am I doing wrong? Because I think I prefer the position after the flamenco. But the other method is easier!

Thank you, and I’ve really enjoyed this month’s challenge so far!

I’m trying to follow the advice from the Q&A and stretch my arm out and rotate chest to the ceiling and get the pole low as I go in to attitude, but the second I lift the left foot from holding the silk I start sliding. The more I push into the silk to try to rotate my chest up the more my right foot slides down in the wraps (thus bandaid on bleeding right side 😂). What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

This attempt feels a little closer, but I’m still not able to rotate nearly far enough to my left to get that right knee hooked. Help please! 🙏🏻 😂

Hi Jill! Great work so far! It looks like your body position is a bit too upright (vertical with shoulders over hips) Chanel is utilizing some arch in her back to lay back horizontally, pushing with her left hand on the pole to facilitate that small straddle inversion. Let us know how it goes!!!

                                                    From Chanel-
“Thanks for your question Sarah! This is an important question and I’m glad you’re asking before attempting the drop.
As long as you wrap for this drop correctly, you will still be safe, even if you miss the knee hook. If you miss the hook, you will end the drop with your wrap squeezing the thigh of the leg that would have hooked. Another important point to note here is that you must continue to hold on with both hands. This is because your grip on the tail is creating the tension that will squeeze your leg and catch you.
Let me know if you have any other questions regarding this.

Hi I just started the challenge last week because we were busy with a very challenging silk routine in class and now I regret starting so late.
My main struggles with the cocoon split are: 1) I am not getting good slack for the split, 2) when I try to step down for the final split, the cocoon wrap on the upper leg gets very loose and I slide down all the way. Will go now to re-watch QnA to see if any of these issues were answered there🤔

Cant wait to get to the studio and try to get that slack! Also understood why my back leg slides down when I step down to that standing split. Also, will try to explore other shapes there since I am not the most splitty person🤗
