Congratulations on new silks! Silks with a lot of stretch to them do take some getting used to. We are constantly figuring out how to create tension, and that is hard when the fabric has more stretch to it. As for the slippery part, rosin, either spray rosin or rock rosin, can help. If you search online, include the word ‘sports’ to narrow down many ways rosin is used, either as a word or for what art form. Happy training!
